I am in no way paid or endorsed by Pearl... and I am in no way a drummer "constrained" by what a percussionist should be... or play.... I play a hybrid Pearl(triggered)/Hart electronic drum kit with Zildjians and Wuhan crashes. I have played alot... of different snares. and yes I currently own and play the VPX snare. The wood tones on this snare are warm with a great biting snare crack when you pound them. It only took a few moments to find the "sweet spot" in the tuning for a great rock sound and then tuned it a little higher for a jazz set. I have recorded this snare several times with different mics to great success and have had several other "high-end" snares available that didn't quite get the sound. I was impressed, you will be too. Good quality hardware, easy tuning, great looks, killer tone. You might not like the stock drum heads that are on it but that again is personal preference/// most don't /// but with the right tuning a sheepskin rag can sound good depending on the...

BIG Surprise
10 Minutes before heading out for a gig, UPS brings me my new VPX Ivory Snare Drum. I decided to take it along tho I was running late and had no time to install new Aquarium drum head I also ordered. I rolled thru our first set with my old standard high mileage Mapex snare. AT break I just tightened down both heads on the VPX, gave it a test smack and HOLY CRAP! I jumped right into our next set and proceeded to ride a wave of inspiration. This snare REALLY cuts thru and has a crisp solid sound. Drove it hard on Cash's Folson City Prison and Rocky Top TN and it showed nice dynamics. I was also impressed with the subtle ghost note sensitivity. Musicians Friend thru Amazon offered me a $15 coupon PLUS free shipping! So, for $84 this is no dought one of my BEST drum purchases in my 30+ years of professional playing.
